PRESS RELEASE: Library launches new online catalogue
TIMMINS: Monday, July 31, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Timmins Public Library is pleased to announce the official launch of its new online catalogue.
Staff members are excited to launch the engaging and mobile friendly site. The new catalogue is designed to enhance patrons’ browsing and borrowing experience. It offers a single, clean interface and a dynamic search of the Library’s extensive collection of over 100,000 items. Like the old catalogue, Library patrons can place and manage their holds, renew materials and review due dates of checked out item with their existing library card number and PIN.
The most significant change is that the catalogue allows searching of both the Library’s print and digital collections in one search interface. In addition to the print collection, members currently have access to over 60,000 eBooks and 13,000 eAudio Books.
“Over 9,700 eBooks and eAudio Books were downloaded in 2016, which comprised of 10% of our total annual circulation. Patrons will now be able to search, checkout, and download eBooks straight from the online catalogue to their device or computer. Digital checkouts will appear under their account, along with their physical checkouts,”said CEO Carole-Ann Churcher.
The catalogue is much easier to work with when you search, with a variety of search option limits (format, location, language, year, etc.) readily visible on the left of the results page. And in addition to the regular mode, the new bilingual system features an accessibility mode for users who require it.
The Library continues to be a leader in information services in our community, with in-person access points at its two locations (320 Second Avenue and 99 Bloor Avenue in South Porcupine), and on the Internet.
If you have any questions or feedback, please consult with a member of the Library team for assistance and they will gladly help you navigate the new online catalogue. You can test it out at https://tim.ent.sirsidynix.net/client/en_US/default
