Ready to Roll! Join us for the launch of the Library Book Bike!

PRESS RELEASE: Ready to Roll! Library book bike is ready to roll through our community.

TIMMINS: June 23, 2022

Join us for the launch of the Library Book Bike!

June 28, 2022 at 2 p.m. – in front of the Timmins Public Library – 320 Second Ave.

Timmins Public Library is excited to introduce *The Library Book Bike / Vélo-Biblio* – the first of its kind in Northern Ontario. Thanks to a grant from the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative, the book bike is ready to roll through our community making appearances at local events, festivals, markets and more. Carrying not only books and regular library materials for all ages, the Library Book Bike will also be offering tablets and Wi-Fi hotspots card holders can borrow.

Library staff members operating the book bike will offer on-the-spot library card registrations, programming, checkout of library material, digital instruction and more while out and about in our community.

A Library Book Bike is essentially a tricycle that has been modified to carry and display books and other library materials. Staff members will adapt current in-house library services into publicly accessible outdoor environments. The beautiful art design on the book bike was created by Hawlii Pichette of Urban Iskwew.

The full cost of this project ($17,900) has been provided by the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative, a $31 million investment from the Government of Canada to transform public spaces in response to COVID-19.

Please join us on June 28 to be among the first to see our mini library branch on wheels, and enter our draw to win a library bag with goodies. There will be treats and balloons for the kids!
