Métis Nation of Ontario – Timmins President Pierre Lefebvre joined Library CEO Carole-Ann Demers and Assistant Director Amy Knifton for the installation of the Birch Bark Canoe information plaque and photo album, now on display in the library’s seating area.
The birch bark canoe was built in 2005 by instructor Tom Byers and three members of the Métis Nation of Ontario: Len Rondeau, Paul Rondeau and Richard Aubin. The canoe has been on display at the library since 2006, as part of an awareness campaign to promote Métis culture and to revive traditional craft.
Library visitors can now view the step-by-step process of the canoe’s creation from the photo album on display.
