Advocacy Policy

The purpose of this policy is to determine the Library Board’s role in advocacy for the Timmins Public Library.

Definition:  Advocacy is the active support of an idea or cause.

1.0 Board Advocacy

The Board shall seek to ensure that:

  1. a) The community is aware of the importance of the Library.
    b) The provincial and federal legislators respond to the needs of the public library community.
    c) The budget will reflect the use of advocacy tools. (ex. OLA/OLBA membership)

2.0 Advocacy targets

2.1 Community:  The Board shall work collaboratively with staff to build and maintain good relationships with individuals and community organizations to ensure continued support for the Library.

2.2 Provincial and federal levels of government:  The Board shall work collaboratively with staff to bring issues forward relating to public libraries at the provincial and federal levels of government to ensure support for the Library.

2.3 Municipal Council:  The Board shall work collaboratively with Municipal Council on a continuous and consistent basis to ensure support for the Library.
